The Heinz Hot Dog Pact; What Does It Mean?

Marketers know that it is easiest to rally people around an idea they already believe in. The most recent ad campaign to embrace this truth is the Heinz Hot Dog Pact.

How many times have you been at a family BBQ or cookout to hear a family member gripe about their annoyance of the unequal number of buns to dogs?

Naturally, when I saw this ad I LOLed. πŸ˜‚

My favorite part is Heinz's new positioning statement, "uniter of buns and wieners for over 150 years."

So risque!

Then I started thinking about the satire of this ad campaign.

It is both a critique of the injustice in the food industry and possibly, a critique of the current political environment. Are you following me here?

It’s also an interesting example of cause marketing where companies use their air time as a way to create social change, but does this cause have enough depth to fit into this category?
